Preserved in the archaeological museum, based in the old municipal building for a long time, this is a painting on wood created in about 1340, coming from the church of St. Augustine.
Portrayed in the painting is the Madonna seated on an original throne composed of the outspread wings of two angels. The throne is set on the last of three steps, upon which are sitting personifications of the three theological virtues. The figures represent: Faith in white, Hope in green and Charity in red.
This masterpiece was created during the mature years of the painter, who united a vibrant feeling of maternal love with customary medieval symbols, particularly in the pose of the Madonna, who is about to seal her deep bond to the Child with a kiss. Many saints in rapt contemplation occupy the rest of the painting, among which one clearly recognises San Cerbone, patron of the city, on the right, with the element of geese.
In this masterpiece, worthy of one of the greatest 14th- century Sienese artists, one notes a rare inspired skill in the delicacy of the faces, the knowing use of gold and colours and the elegance of the draperies.[1]

Podere Santa Pia is located in the heart of the Valle d'Ombrone, and one can easily reach some of the most beautiful attractions of Tuscany, famous for their artistic heritage.
Discover Val d'Orcia with its wonderful landscape and its beautiful towns. There are several walk routes to be followed, to admire the beautiful landscape that was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sitesin 2004. The area is one of Tuscany's most famous one, both for the famous wine brands, both for the untouched views, either for its proximity to famous Tuscan cities such as Montalcino, Montepulciano, Monticchiello, Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia.
The Montecucco DOC sits in the southern part of the Tuscany region. Montecucco wine is produced in an area which is particularly renowned for high quality wines in the municipalities of Cinigiano, Campagnatico, Civitella Paganico and a part of those of Castel del Piano, Arcidosso, Seggiano and Roccalbegna. This area is nestled between Montalcino, home of the renowned Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, and Scansano, birthplace of the Morellino di Scansano DOCG. Despite having a viticultural heritage dating as far back as the eighth century, Montecucco wine was only awarded its DOC classification in 1998.

The Museum of Sacred Art opened in 2005 and is based in the church of San Pietro all’Orto, the most ancient church in Massa Marittima.
The Museum was created with the aim of retracing the main stages of Massa Marittima’s civil and religious history through the exhibition of precious artefacts: from the Prince Bishop’s domination (XIthcentury) to the consolidation of municipal power (XIIth – XIVth centuries) and the slow town decline (XVIth century).
The Museum currently displays pieces from the cathedral and other churches in town, witnessing the attention paid to religion in the past, including vestments and church plates and funeral findings.
The pieces displayed are mainly of Siena’s school (XIIIth – XVIth centuries).
With the use of didactical boards, the Museum allows visitors to also learn more on the history of liturgy and holy iconography.[1]
