Palio, a gripping documentary by female director and Tuscan native Cosima Spender, about the Palio in Siena, the furious bareback horse race that draws thousands of tourists to the Tuscan city twice every year (on July 2 and August 16). With the epic duel between Gigi Bruschelli Trecciolino, who was 46 years old and had won 13 of the previous 16 Palios, and Giovanni Atzeni Tittia, who was 29 and had won only twice. Palio won the best documentary editing award at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival.
Palio is co-produced by James Gay-Rees, whose recent work includes the newly crowned biggest British documentary of all time Amy and the BAFTA winning and internationally acclaimed Senna, with John Hunt.
